“Light The Water”

Mid- Autumn and Water Lantern Fest

Mid-Autumn Festival, is popular in many Chinese cultural circles, because it's based on reunion of families and has always touched the homesickness of the wanderers in foreign lands. This traditional festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the lunar calendar, which varies form year to year.  With the larger scale adoption on the Georgian calendar, many regions have started to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on August 16th.  The water lantern, also known as the river lantern, originated in the early years of the Ming Dynasty and was originally celebrated for 15 days! This year, the Kansas Chinese Association (KCCA) prepared a colorful Mid-Autumn Festival night, for everyone, including a large-scale water lantern event, where wishes are written on the lanterns, so everyone in a foreign country, on the full moon night, can also feel the Chinese culture and place your homesick feelings.  

This event will be held on TBD….  This is a PM with event including, lantern lighting, food, games and a traditional Chinese movie. The listing of times is shown below:

6:00 PM- 7:00 PM Registration and purchase of water lamps at the front desk

6:00 PM- 8:00 PM Chinese Culture Show, Lawn Games, Outdoor Film Show

6:30 PM- 9:00 PM Guess the riddle

8:00 PM- 9:00 PM Design of water lanterns and water lanterns ceremony

The event is being organized by Kansas Chinese Association (KCCA) with hundreds of water lamps, food, lighting ceremony, pinning homesickness..  This event will be located near the No. 12 pavilion built by Shawnee Mission Park. 

This ticket includes: water light and marker

Snacks, drinks

Warm jacket (large temperature difference between day and night)

Lawn portable chair, blanket
